About Me

Ella Kanegarian Berberian (real name: Eleonora Harutyunyan) is an essayist, storyteller and commercial copywriter working in various sectors of culture. She jumped from art criticism to curating, commercial copywriting and non-fiction.

Her short timeframe in curating was marked with several bold exhibitions of emerging artists, among them  “ERRORS” by Gayane Yerkanyan. This period was also marked by active media attention and the flattering article  “10 Women Ruling Armenia`s Art Scene” by Lizzy Vartanian Collier.

From 2021 Ella has worked as a curator of virtual exhibitions for Yerevan Biennial Foundation (YBAF). Their collaboration has supported visibility of Armenian culture on Google Arts and Culture platform. Later Ella became the executive director of the Foundation, focusing more on enriching the collection with new artists and outlining annual art projects. 

In spite of frequent changes her main scope of work has always been with texts. Ella`s essays on culture and nonfiction works have been published in regional media outlets, in European Literary Magazines and in such magazines as The Wire.

Aside from essays, Ella has been writing scripts and co-producing social documentaries for over 10 years and has collaborated with numerous local and international companies and broadcasters. Her latest work on video episodes was for Arte Tracks East. 

From 2022 Ella started her ongoing collaboration with director and producer Alisa Zolonz on various projects, including their first award-winning animation “Love Photosynthesis”. 

Their first collaboration on music video “Asel” (band: SAMUUM), directed by Ella`s husband Andranik Berberian received 3d place in Berlin Music Video Awards for it`s original concept and idea in 2023.

Ella`s years in copywriting have been highlighted by several projects, including the educational book on financial literacy created together with OECD/Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development  and development of voice/tone for Tanzania Commercial Bank.

Currently the copywriting  branch is successfully taken by Ella`s team, which gives her an opportunity to focus on literary projects.
